"This is my husband's favorite broccoli, therefore I've named it after him. I've been making this recipe since the beginning of our marriage and it's always been one of his requests since that time. I found this in one of my favorite magazines; Southern Living."

Step 1

Remove broccoli leaves, and cut off tough ends of stalks; discard. Wash broccoli thoroughly, and cut into spears.

Step 2

Arrange broccoli in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam 5 minutes or until crisp-tender. Remove from heat; keep warm.

Step 3

Heat sesame and vegetable oils in a small saucepan until hot but NOT smoking; remove from heat.

Step 4

Add crushed red pepper, and let stand 10 minutes.

Step 5

Add garlic and next 4 ingredients, stirring to dissolve sugar.

Step 6

Toss broccoli spears gently with oil mixture just before serving. Serve hot or cold.

Johnny G's got good taste in knowing what tastes good! We enjoyed this a lot - I used a bit less oil than called for and subbed artificial sweetener for the sugar.

Daily Inspiration

Very tasty way to serve broccoli. We just loved the addition of sesame oil and red pepper flakes in this wonderful finishing sauce. Will be making this broccoli again very soon. : )

This will be a new favorite way to serve broccoli at our house. I made this to serve hot alongside sweet & sour pork and fried rice, but it really doesn't have to be served with an oriental meal. Thank you for sharing the recipe!

Since Thai food is my absolute favorite, these flavors really excited my taste buds! Loved every mouthful!! Thank you for this great addition to my veggie recipes ForeverMama! Linda I added this to my regular rotation when I have Thai inspired recipes. Most recently had it as a side with Unwrapped Egg Rolls served over Cauliflower Rice. Yummy!
