"A layered cookie. One recipe had just spices and another had just nuts. I combined them. The strawberry jam isn't as thick as it probably was back in the day. Wilber Nebraska old recipe."

Preheat oven to 325F.

Cream the butter until soft.
Step 3
Gradually add the sugar, and beat until light and fluffy.
Step 4
Add egg yolks and vanilla and blend.
Step 5
Sift flour spices and salt.
Step 6
Add the flour mixture and mix well.
Step 7
Fold in the nuts.
Step 8
Spoon 1/2 the batter into a well-greased pam sprayed 8-inch square pan, spread evenly.
Step 9
Top with strawberry jam (they mentioned adding more).
Step 10
Cover with the remaining dough, greasing the spatula was extremely helpful for spreading dough. So for future reference for anyone considering making these...get a cooking spray and plan to use it liberally on the spatula...makes spreading the batter very easy!
Step 11
Bake for about 1-hour or until lightly browned. Check at 50 minutes.
Step 12
Cool and cut into small squares.
