Step 1: Preheat oven to 325F.
Step 2: Cream the butter until soft.
Step 3: Gradually add the sugar, and beat until light and fluffy.
Step 4: Add egg yolks and vanilla and blend.
Step 5: Sift flour spices and salt.
Step 6: Add the flour mixture and mix well.
Step 7: Fold in the nuts.
Step 8: Spoon 1/2 the batter into a well-greased pam sprayed 8-inch square pan, spread evenly.
Step 9: Top with strawberry jam (they mentioned adding more).
Step 10: Cover with the remaining dough, greasing the spatula was extremely helpful for spreading dough. So for future reference for anyone considering making these...get a cooking spray and plan to use it liberally on the spatula...makes spreading the batter very easy!
Step 11: Bake for about 1-hour or until lightly browned. Check at 50 minutes.
Step 12: Cool and cut into small squares.
