Step 2

In skillet, brown ground beef. Add onion and cook until tender. Drain off fat. Stir in remaining ingredients and taste for seasoning. Spoon into crust. Bake 20-30 minutes until crust is deep golden brown. Top with cheese a few minutes before taking out. Sprinkle lettuce and tomato on. Server with sour cream or some Mexican style crema and hot sauce. • If you don't have a 9 inch metal or 10 inch glass pie pan, you can use a 9 inch round cake pan.
  • If you want to make the dish spicier, increase the amount of chili powder or taco seasoning.

  • Substitute the ground beef with ground turkey for a leaner option. This substitution will reduce the fat content of the dish, making it a healthier option.
  • Substitute the taco cheese with vegan cheese for a dairy-free option. This substitution will make the dish suitable for those following a vegan diet, while still providing a cheesy flavour.

Vegetarian Variation Substitute the ground beef for 1 pound of crumbled tofu and use vegetable broth instead of beef broth. Replace the chili powder or taco seasoning with 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
