The ingredient tips, suggestions, variations, facts, questions and answers below are not edits to the original author's recipe. They are not meant to imply any change would improve the recipe. • If possible, use fresh cranberries for the cranberry jelly for a more intense flavor.
  • Choose a good quality ham and Camembert for the best results.

  • For the ham, substitute with bacon for a smoky flavor. The benefit of this substitution is that it adds a smoky flavor to the dish, giving it a more complex taste.
  • For the Camembert, substitute with Brie cheese for a milder flavor. The benefit of this substitution is that it adds a milder flavor to the dish, making it more suitable for those who don't like strong-tasting cheese.

Savory Spin Swap the cranberry jelly for a savory spread like pesto or hummus. Omit the ham and Camembert cheese and instead top the bread with spinach, cherry tomatoes, and feta cheese. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture as usual and cook in the pan until golden brown.

Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic - This delicious side dish is the perfect accompaniment to the Cranberry, Ham, and Camembert French toasts. Roasting the potatoes in olive oil and herbs adds a great flavor and texture to the dish, and the rosemary and garlic add a nice balance to the savory flavors of the French toasts.

Sauteed Green Beans with Shallots and Almonds - This simple but flavorful side dish is the perfect complement to the Cranberry, Ham, and Camembert French toasts. The green beans provide a fresh and crunchy texture, while the shallots and almonds add a subtle sweetness and nuttiness to the dish. The combination of flavors makes this a great accompaniment to the French toasts.
