Step by Step Method
Step 1
Wash the carrots well.
Step 2
Place them in a 2-quart saucepan.
Step 3
Pour water until it covers the carrots completely.
Step 4
Cover the saucepan with a lid and allow water to boil over high heat.

Cook carrots for about 7 minutes.
Step 6
Discard half of the water from the saucepan.
Step 7
Add the butter, sugar, and salt.
Step 8
Stir until well-combined.
Step 9
Cover the pan once again and cook until carrots are tender, but not mushy, about 6 to 7 more minutes.
Step 10
Adjust taste as necessary by adding more brown sugar and/or salt.
Step 11
Check for doneness by sticking a carrot with the fork.
Step 12
It should poke through easily but should still be a little firm and crisp.
