"This will become your favorite, go-to chocolate cake. I promise! Just the ooey, gooey icing will do it for you... I copied this recipe a long time ago, but never noted where it came from. A quick internet search says Phyllis George, a former Miss America, named this as her favorite cake, one that a renowned cook named Queenie made for her while she was governor of Kentucky (Phyllis, not Queenie!). Regardless, this is a super sweet, moist, melt-in-your-mouth cake. But not for the faint of heart - you don't even want to know the fat and calorie count..."

My son made this for us and it was sooooo good! The frosting reminds me of my dad's fudge; it even smelled like it. The cake is delicious. Thank you!

Chef Potpie

Going straight into my Best of 2020 file! This cake is so moist and dense, just like we love our cake. And the frosting...well. I am amazed at the simplicity of it for such a lovely result, and will be using this frosting on many cakes in the future. My sheet cake rose quite a bit, so I gently smooshed (is that a word?) it down with a flat spatula to make it more even before spreading that lovely frosting that sets up so quickly. Tada! Cake is done! Thank you, Lori. This is a forever recipe.

KATO BABY

I made half the recipe for my dh & myself. Wish I would have made the whole cake. OMG BEST CAKE EVER! Don't get me started on the delicious, decadent frosting. Thanks so much for sharing a new family favorite Lori. Kudos on making it into my Best of 2020 Cookbook.
