Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
Step 2: In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: In a 2 quart saucepan, melt the 1 cup butter over medium heat. Add the marshmallows, cola, and cocoa and continue over medium heat until bubbles form and marshmallows are melted. Remove from heat.
Step 4: In a medium bowl, beat eggs and add buttermilk and 1 tsp of vanilla.
Step 5: Pour marshmallow mixture over the flour mixture and whisk well. Whisk in buttermilk mixture until blended.
Step 6: Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Step 7: In a 1 quart saucepan melt the 1/2 cup butter. Add cocoa and cola. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat.
Step 8: Add vanilla and stir.
Step 9: Pour mixture over confectioners sugar and stir with whisk until well combined.
Step 10: Spread frosting over the still-warm cake. Cool. Does not need to be refrigerated.
