Step by Step Method

Step 1

Combine the cocoa, sugar, salt and cornstarch in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and mix well.

Step 2

Slowly add milk whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat while whisking constantly. Lower the heat to a simmer, cover and simmer gently for 8 to 10 minutes, until pudding begins to thicken. Remove from the heat and whisk in the butter and vanilla.

Step 3

Pour into one large bowl or 8 small serving bowls and refrigerate for at least an hour, until thoroughly chilled.

Step 4

Serve topped with a dollup of whipped cream (this is optional).

Meatball

Much cheaper to make at home then buy in the store. I was happy to find a pudding recipe here. It came out nice and creamy and with a chocolate flavor that was rich and delicious. Of course I had to have whipped cream on top with every bowl! It only made about 6 servings for us because we love our pudding.

Loved this... we doubled the recipe to use up milk. We used 1% milk, only 2 tsp vanilla and did not double the butter. I also keep on Med heat to warm and med high to boil. Whisk all the time I don't cover. Just the way my mom taught me. Lovely recipe!
