Step by Step Method
Step 1
Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a boil.
Step 2
Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Step 3
Add 5 sliced hot dogs and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned all over, about 3 minutes.
Step 4
Using a slotted spoon, transfer to a medium bowl.
Step 5
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil and garlic cloves to the pan.
Step 6
Cook until lightly browned, about 30 seconds.
Step 7
Add onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 3 minutes.
Step 8
Add ground beef, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper to taste.
Step 9
Cook the meat to bite-size pieces, until browned 8 minutes.
Step 10
Add 2 tablespoons tomato paste and cook, stirring frequently, until the tomato paste is slightly caramelized, about 1 minute.
Step 11
Stir in the hot dogs, tomato sauce, 1 cup water rinsing out can, ketchup, soy sauce and fish sauce and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens,10 minutes.
Step 12
Meanwhile, add spaghetti to the boiling water and cook until al dente, drain and return to the pot.
Step 13
Add 3/4 of the sauce (about 5 cups) and toss until the pasta is evenly coated.
Step 14
Remove bay leaf and season to taste.
Step 15
Serve topped with the remaining sauce and shredded cheddar cheese.
