Step by Step Method

Step 1

Mix shortening, sugar and eggs.

Stir in milk and vanilla.

Step 3

Sift flour, soda and salt.

Step 4

Stir into mixture.

Step 5

Add walnuts.

Chill for an hour or so. (This appears more like a batter than a dough.)

Step 7

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Drop by rounded teaspoons, two inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

Bake for about 10 minutes.

Cool and ice with Burnt Butter Glaze.

Step 11

Heat 2 tablespoons butter until yellow brown.

Step 12

Beat in two cups confectioner's sugar, 1/4 cup undiluted Carnation evaporated milk and a bit of vanilla.

Step 13

Spread on cooled cookies.
