"I had this dip while visiting a friend in a popular New Orleans restaurant a few years back, I got the ingredient list from the owner but not the amounts, I played with it a few times until I got it right, what you see here is the finished result, and it tastes like the one I had. You can certainly play with the ingredient amounts to your own liking, this will be on my holiday menu again this year and again for future holidays. Make sure you brown the onions well or you will not achieve the full flavor. I can't say for certain how many servings this makes, my guess would be eight. Hope you enjoy! I"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions, sautee until they are caramelized, about 15 minutes. Take out and put onions in a bowl and cool.

Step 2

Once onions are cooled Mix in the rest of the ingredients, adding pepper and Tabasco to your taste and adding more salt if need be. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving. Stir again before serving.
