Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a bowl, whisk together egg, bread crumbs, garlic, 2 tablespoons water, herb seasoning and half each of the salt and cayenne pepper; add beef and mix well. Form into four 1/2 inch thick patties.

Step 2

In ovenproof frypan, heat oil over medium high heat; fry patties until bottoms are browned, about 6 minutes. Turn; cook for 2 minutes more.

Step 3

Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix together tomatoes, green pepper, onion, parsley and remaining salt and cayenne pepper. Spoon onto patties; sprinkle with cheese. Broil 4 inches from heat until cheese begins to brown and pattties are no longer pink inside, about 4 minutes.

Loved the recipe. Loaded with flavour. I was heavy on the veggies and served the burger as a pattie with a side of oven roasted turnip. When I make this recipe again and I will love it as a proper burger in a bun.   The Provolone cheese is just right. Thanks Derf for a Saturday night ALIVE burger. I cut the recipe in half with no problem. 22 Dec I made the recipe again this time using ground turkey.  Just great I just upped the cayenne and garlic a bit.  Really delish and a wee bit lower in fat & calories.25 Jan14Made again this time with spicy sausage meat - Delish
