Step 1
Mix ground beef, half of the onions, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, nutmeg, parsley, water, salt and pepper in a large bowl by hand until just combined.
Step 2
Make meatballs the size of a golf ball.
Step 3
Roll each into flour to give it a good coating.
Step 4
Heat the oil in a large skillet
Step 5
Fry meatballs until just browned, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
Step 6
Remove from the skillet

Add 1 tablespoon flour to the skillet and brown until golden but not brown.
Step 8
Add remaining chopped onions and sauté until softened.
Step 9
Add tomato sauce, oregano, and basil and bring to a low simmer.
Step 10
Put meatballs in the sauce, turning each one over to coat.
Step 11
Cover and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
Step 12
Sprinkle with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan for garnish
