Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 clove garlic,smashed
  • 1 cup onion, chopped , divided
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley,minced
  • 1 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons flour, for coating
  • 1 can(7 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dry basil
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoons salt ,to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper ,to taste
  • Garnish:
  • 1 tablespoons parsley,minced
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese,grated

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix ground beef, half of the onions, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, nutmeg, parsley, water, salt and pepper in a large bowl by hand until just combined.

  • Step 2: Make meatballs the size of a golf ball.

  • Step 3: Roll each into flour to give it a good coating.

  • Step 4: Heat the oil in a large skillet

  • Step 5: Fry meatballs until just browned, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

  • Step 6: Remove from the skillet

  • Step 7: Add 1 tablespoon flour to the skillet and brown until golden but not brown.

  • Step 8: Add remaining chopped onions and sauté until softened.

  • Step 9: Add tomato sauce, oregano, and basil and bring to a low simmer.

  • Step 10:  Put meatballs in the sauce, turning each one over to coat.

  • Step 11: Cover and simmer gently for 20 minutes.

  • Step 12: Sprinkle with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan for garnish
