Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a dutch oven, heat oil over high heat. Add onions, carrots and garlic. Cook, stirring, until slightly softened (about 2 minutes).
Step 2
Add beef and pork. Cook, breaking up with a spoon or potato masher until no longer pink (about 5 minutes).
Step 3
Stir in tomato paste, and cook one minute. Season generously with salt and pepper.
Step 4
Add wine and tomatoes. Bring sauce to a simmer. Cook partially covered for about an hour, until thickened. Stir occasionally.
Step 5
Add milk, simmer until completely absorbed, about 15 minutes. Taste, and season again with salt and pepper.
