Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups chopped yellow onions
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup wine (dry white)
  • 1 can (28 ounce) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a dutch oven, heat oil over high heat. Add onions, carrots and garlic. Cook, stirring, until slightly softened (about 2 minutes).

  • Step 2: Add beef and pork. Cook, breaking up with a spoon or potato masher until no longer pink (about 5 minutes).

  • Step 3: Stir in tomato paste, and cook one minute. Season generously with salt and pepper.

  • Step 4: Add wine and tomatoes. Bring sauce to a simmer. Cook partially covered for about an hour, until thickened. Stir occasionally.

  • Step 5: Add milk, simmer until completely absorbed, about 15 minutes. Taste, and season again with salt and pepper.
