"There's nothing more comforting and yummy than a homemade apple dumpling"
Fill the cored center of each apple with cinnamon candies.
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
Cut 2/3 cup of the butter into the flour mixture until fine and crumbly. Sprinkle the milk over the mixture until moist, pressing it into a ball. Roll out the dough about 1/4-inch thick on a floured board and cut into 6-inch squares.
Place an apple on each square and bring the dough up around to cover it completely.
Moisten the top edges with water and fasten it securely on top of the apple - whole cloves may be used to secure it.
Place the dumplings 1-inch apart in a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish or pan.
Combine the brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer over low heat for 3 minutes, remove from the heat and stir in the remaining butter.
Pour the syrup over the dumplings and bake in a preheated 375-degrees Fahrenheit oven for 35-40 minutes, basing every 15 minutes.
Serve hot with chilled rich milk, cream, or whipped cream.

I had a bag of those red cinnamon candies left over from Valentine's day, so chose this recipe to use them up. My sister and I made these together, cutting down the recipe. We loved them topped with some whip cream!
