"Just your basic beginner recipe but you can kick it up by adding in many different ingredients, For cheesy Parmesan gravy, add in 1/3 to 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese after adding in the cream and omit the salt or can reduce amount to taste. If you like a boost of mushroom flavor saute about 10 medium to large fresh mushrooms, sliced in with the butter then add the flour and remaining ingredients, you an also mix in 1/2 to 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup towards the end of cooking and simmer/cook 3 minutes more. Amounts listed without any additions yield about 3 cups"

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Melt butter in saucepan over low heat until bubbly and hot. Whisk in flour until blended with the butter. Add in whole milk (or half and half) and the heavy whipping cream whisking constantly over medium-high heat until simmering.
Step 2
Reduce heat to medium-low, season with salt and pepper and cook stirring for 3 minutes stirring frequently.
