"Fairy bread is as Australian as Vegemite! You can't have a kid's birthday party in Australia without the all favourite Fairy Bread! I even served this at my nieces 21st years back, and remembering my sister saying "They are too old for that". I took my huge plate out to the table and it vanished within seconds, with all the teenager reminiscing about their childhood days and eating Fairy bread.... Yes even 21 year olds can reminisce! Again at my own daughter's 18th, a huge plate went out with the same result! To be authentic, you must use fresh, soft white, square shape bread from the supermarket and butter is a must, none of this gourmet foodie bread, authenticity is the key to this Aussie favourite! NOTE: There often is a debate as to crust on or crust off, I like to serve with crust on, but I used to have a little lovely visit my place that threw a tantie if the crust was on their bread, so it was always easier on me, (not to mention easier on the mother of the child) to take the crust off!"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Have the butter at room temperature to soften, this makes it is easier to spread.

Step 2

Butter each slice of bread, liberally with a layer of butter, making sure the butter is spread all the way to the crusts; every square millimetre of the bread needs to be slathered evenly with the butter, so as the sprinkle's will stick.

Step 3

Pour the sprinkles on a large plate, carefully take the bread and buttered side facing down carefully place the bread onto the sprinkles, press bread ever so lightly, allowing the sprinkle's to stick to the butter, making sure the sprinkles cover the entire surface of the bread, shake off any excess sprinkles.

Step 4

Remove crusts from bread, (see note above) now this is where precision come's into play, you need to remove the crust without crushing or squashing the bread, still leaving the bread soft and fluffy!

Step 5

Cut the bread, equally into four triangles, again be precise ~ the triangles need to be of equal size and again be careful not to crush/squash the bread when cutting loosing it fluffiness and texture!

Step 6

Place onto serving plates, and watch them disappear!

Fun recipe - both tasty and pretty. Simple enough for little ones to make with their parents. Have also made it with honey-butter. Thanks Tisme!
