Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350-degrees F.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl cream butter and sugar together until thick and lemon colored.

Step 3

Add eggs, beating until light.

Step 4

In a seperate bowl sift flour with baking powder and salt.

Step 5

Add dry ingredients alternately to the batter with the cream (or milk), beating until batter is smooth.

Step 6

Pour batter into a greased 9 x 12-inch pan.

Step 7

Insert apple slices so that the outer edges are up.

Step 8

In a small cup combine remaining 2 tablespoons sugar with cinnamon.

Step 9

Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over top of apples.

Step 10

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Good with my cocoa this morning, but a little on the dry side. Next time I won't bake quite as long.

Delicate, cinnamony, tender describes this cake. A perfect match alongside your coffee. This cake is really enjoyable and it's a breeze to put together. For the cinnamon-sugar topping, I used a little extra. It's a do-again cake and I can see why it's been made for so many years! Thank you ellie for sharing! Made it for Billboard Tag.
