Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place the oven rack in the middle position. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter an 8-inch square baking dish.

Step 2

For crust: In a bowl, combine the oats, flour, and brown sugar. Add the butter and maple syrup. Combine with a wooden spoon. Put the bowl aside.

Step 3

For the filling. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Add the applesauce and bring to a boil, stirring with a whisk. Place aside.

Step 4

Spread half the oat mixture in the baking dish and press lightly. Spread the apple filling on the oat mixture. Gently sprinkle the top with remaining oat mixture.

Step 5

Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cold. Cut into squares. Delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

We loved these. I subbed cooked apples chunky style for the applesauce with great success and they were yummy!

To heck with the applesauce. I used thin sliced apples instead. These bars are delicious and my lil guy devoured his first one in about 2 seconds!

Lets Eat

After reading the previous review I decided to make them with chunky applesauce. It was sweet, so I only added half the amount called for, for the brown sugar. Tasted great and it wasn't runny or anything. These are delicious!

These are great tasting but I think I would prefer a more firmer filling though the filling is very soft, anyway thank you for sharing your recipe here
