Step 1: Place the oven rack in the middle position. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter an 8-inch square baking dish.
Step 2: For crust: In a bowl, combine the oats, flour, and brown sugar. Add the butter and maple syrup. Combine with a wooden spoon. Put the bowl aside.
Step 3: For the filling. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Add the applesauce and bring to a boil, stirring with a whisk. Place aside.
Step 4: Spread half the oat mixture in the baking dish and press lightly. Spread the apple filling on the oat mixture. Gently sprinkle the top with remaining oat mixture.
Step 5: Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cold. Cut into squares. Delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
