"I love applesauce; but, sometimes I want something a bit different. This definitely delivers. It is based on an Alton Brown recipe and also a Southern Living one. For this recipe, I like to use a mix of apples, depending on what is best at the time; also, I prefer dried cranberries, but dried pears are also really good in this recipe. And, when I serve it ... garnish with some toasted pecans. It really doesn't take any more time, but it is outstanding. However, it is definitely more an 'Adult' recipe."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Base ... Add the butter to a pot and bring to medium heat. Once melted, add the apples and saute for a couple of minutes. Then add in the apple cider, honey, brandy, bring to a light boil; then, reduce to medium low heat, and simmer until the apples are soft and most of the liquid has evaporated (about 5-8 minutes).
Step 2
Finish ... Add the cranberries, a pinch of salt, cinnamon, and stir to combine. Cook another couple of minutes, and then remove from the heat. As the sauce cools, it will thicken up. Once the sauce is completely cooled and thickened, transfer to a serving bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
Step 3
Serve ... I like to serve this cold; but, you could always heat it up in the microwave if you want. Garnish with toasted pecans or walnuts if you want. ENJOY!
