"Not Weight Watchers nut bread. World War II Nut Bread. My grandmother's recipe from a much simpler time. A very plain nut bread that was made "for company". Not as sweet or fancy as "today's" nut breads. An heirloom recipe that may or may not suit your taste. My grandmother would serve this with fresh churned butter."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together.

Step 2

Work in shortening until mixture resembles course meal.

Step 3

Add egg, milk and nuts. Beat thoroughly.

Step 4

Turn into well greased loaf pan.

Step 5

Bake 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and slice.
