Step by Step Method
Step 1
Melt the fat (bacon grease) in a heavy skillet over low heat.
Step 2
Add onions, peppers and garlic.
Step 3
Sauté gently, about 3 minutes or until soft and slightly browned.
Step 4
Remove garlic (or not) smash if using.
Step 5
Add remaining ingredients.
Step 6
Cover and simmer over low heat about 2 hours, or place in a slow oven (300°F) and bake 2 hours.
