Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2
Peel, trim and slice the turnips very thinly (You can use a mandolin).
Step 3
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a cast iron skillet.
Step 4
Place a layer of turnips on the bottom of the skillet, on top of the melted butter.
Step 5
Lightly season with salt and pepper.
Step 6
Add 1/3 cup Cheddar cheese and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese on top of the turnip and butter.
Step 7
Add 1 tablespoon of butter, cut into small pieces, on top of the cheese layer.
Step 8
Drizzle 2 tablespoon milk over the turnips, and top with some fresh thyme.
Step 9
Repeat steps 4-7 until you have 3 layers of each, ending with the cheese layer.
Step 10
Bake for 25-30 minutes, until brown and bubbly.
