Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 410 grams turnips (3 large)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shaved
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, shaved
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • Fresh thyme, sprig
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Peel, trim and slice the turnips very thinly (You can use a mandolin).

  • Step 3: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a cast iron skillet.

  • Step 4: Place a layer of turnips on the bottom of the skillet, on top of the melted butter.

  • Step 5: Lightly season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 6: Add 1/3 cup Cheddar cheese and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese on top of the turnip and butter.

  • Step 7: Add 1 tablespoon of butter, cut into small pieces, on top of the cheese layer.

  • Step 8: Drizzle 2 tablespoon milk over the turnips, and top with some fresh thyme.

  • Step 9: Repeat steps 4-7 until you have 3 layers of each, ending with the cheese layer.

  • Step 10: Bake for 25-30 minutes, until brown and bubbly.
