Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a saucepan over medium high heat bring 1 1/2 cups creams and the remaining ingredients to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until mixture is thick, stirring often (30-40 minutes).

Step 2

Remove from heat. Whisk in remaining 1 cup cream and then strain into a microwavable bowl.

This can be made 3 days ahead, cool, cover and refrigerate. Rewarm in microawave at 15 second intervals
