"This unique recipe is a product of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute & was originally titled "Alaska Crab Wrap Sandwich" which I found a bit redundant & boring, unlike the recipe. It was intended to be a main course for 4, but crab is rarely found here in Iceland. When it is, the price you have to pay would cause a cardiac arrest. So I adapted it as a starter course for 8 using shrimp, amended it slightly & renamed it "The Elegant Wrap". Enjoy!"

Editorial Notes

The ingredient tips, suggestions, variations, facts, questions and answers below are not edits to the original author's recipe. They are not meant to imply any change would improve the recipe. They're offered for convenience, alternative ideas, and points of interest. If you have any comments about them, please post in the Help & Ideas forum.

  • If using frozen shrimp, make sure to thaw them completely before cooking.
  • Choose a ripe Brie cheese for the best flavor.

  • For the shrimp, use cooked, shelled and diced lobster instead. The benefit of this substitution is that lobster has a more intense flavor than shrimp, so it will add a richer taste to the dish. Additionally, lobster is a luxurious ingredient, so this substitution will make the dish even more elegant.
  • For the bacon, use cooked and crumbled pancetta instead. The benefit of this substitution is that pancetta has a more delicate flavor than bacon, which will add a subtle complexity to the dish. Additionally, pancetta is a more gourmet ingredient, so this substitution will further elevate the dish.

Taco Variation Replace the flour tortillas with taco shells and top with the shrimp and Brie mixture, mixed greens, diced tomato, and crumbled bacon. Serve with the mayo sauce and a dollop of sour cream.
