Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a bowl, combine flour with 1 teaspoon ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and salt; mix until crumbly. RESERVE 1/3 cup of mixture.

To remaining mixture add soda; mix.

Add buttermilk, molasses and egg; blend.

In double boiler, mix water sugar and cornstarch; cook until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in remaining ingredients.
