Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • FOR LEMON SAUCE
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a bowl, combine flour with 1 teaspoon ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and salt; mix until crumbly. RESERVE 1/3 cup of mixture.

  • Step 2: To remaining mixture add soda; mix.

  • Step 3: Add buttermilk, molasses and egg; blend.

  • Step 4: Pour into Pam sprayed pan and sprinkle with reserved mixture.

  • Step 5: Bake for 20-30 minutes until done.

  • TO MAKE THE SAUCE

  • Step 6: In double boiler, mix water sugar and cornstarch; cook until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in remaining ingredients.
