Step by Step Method
Step 1
Prepare bok choy by removing any damaged or broken outer leaves. Wash well, then pat dry. Trim bottoms and tops of leaves. Cut bok choy into halves from bottom to top.
Step 2
Heat oil in large deep skillet or wok with tight-fitting lid over medium-high heat. Add bok choy, cut side down; cook until browned, about 3 minutes. Add ginger, garlic and pinch of red pepper flakes; sauté until fragrant, an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Step 3
Add soy sauce and broth or water; cover and reduce heat to low. steam until tender, about 4 minutes.
Step 4
Transfer to platter, then garnish with sesame seeds and drizzle with sesame oil, if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature, refrigerating any leftovers.
