Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a bowl

Step 2

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar.

Step 3

Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Step 4

In a small bowl, beat egg and milk; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll to 1/2" thickness.

Step 5

Cut with a 2 1/2" biscuit cutter.

Step 6

Bake at 400º for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.

These are good! We had them with butter and jam but are also great just by themselves -- they are sweeter than most biscuits and do not rise as high as some -- but they are good! Thanks for sharing!
