  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoons cream of tartar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • ⅔ cup milk

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a bowl

  • Step 2: Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar.

  • Step 3: Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

  • Step 4: In a small bowl, beat egg and milk; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll to 1/2" thickness.

  • Step 5: Cut with a 2 1/2" biscuit cutter.

  • Step 6: Bake at 400º for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
