Step by Step Method
Step 1
Rinse wild rice.
Step 2
Saute in vegetable oil
Step 3
Add water and salt and cook about 1/2 hour or until rice is not quite done.

Drain
Step 5
Reserving 1 1/2 cup rice liquid.
Step 6
In a large kettle, saute onions, celery, and carrot in butter until onion is transparent.

Reduce heat.
Step 8
Blend in flour and cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Don't brown.
Step 10
Blend in chicken broth and rice liquid. Cook until slightly thickened.
Step 11
Add half and half,
Step 12
Stir in rice, ham, pepper, and rosemary.
Step 13
Simmer for 20 minutes.
Step 14
Garnish with parsley and crumbled bacon.
