Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 ounce dry wild rice ( 3/4 cup)
  • 1 tablespoons oil (vegetable oil)
  • 4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, diced
  • 1/2 cup carrot, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cup light cream
  • 4 ounces ham, diced (cooked ham)
  • 2 ounces bacon
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper, to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, minced

How to Make

  • Step 1: Rinse wild rice.

  • Step 2: Saute in vegetable oil

  • Step 3: Add water and salt and cook about 1/2 hour or until rice is not quite done.

  • Step 4: Drain

  • Step 5: Reserving 1 1/2 cup rice liquid.

  • Step 6: In a large kettle, saute onions, celery, and carrot in butter until onion is transparent.

  • Step 7: Reduce heat.

  • Step 8: Blend in flour and cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

  • Step 9: Don't brown.

  • Step 10: Blend in chicken broth and rice liquid. Cook until slightly thickened.

  • Step 11: Add half and half,

  • Step 12: Stir in rice, ham, pepper, and rosemary.

  • Step 13: Simmer for 20 minutes.

  • Step 14: Garnish with parsley and crumbled bacon.
