"These are good as an appetizer for a party or potluck or as a main dish (good with rice or noodles). Pepper Jelly varies in heat, so use one with a spice level you like! If you're busy (or just prefer it), you can use frozen meatballs. I don't cook the meatballs first in this recipe -- if you prefer to pan fry or bake them first, feel free to do so. I love that they cook in a crock pot and I don't have to worry about them until it's time to stir them."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients - ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, chopped parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should get approximately 30 meatballs.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, prepare the pepper jelly sauce. Mix together the sweet pepper jelly, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir until well combined.

Step 4

Place the homemade meatballs into the crockpot.

Step 5

Pour the pepper jelly sauce over the meatballs, making sure they are evenly coated.

Step 6

Cover the crockpot with the lid and set it to cook on low heat.

Step 7

Cook the meatballs in the crockpot for about 4-6 hours, or until they are cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly. Gently stir the meatballs once or twice during cooking to ensure they are coated with the sauce.

Step 8

Once the meatballs are done, you can keep the crockpot on the "warm" setting until you're ready to serve.

Step 9

Before serving, garnish with freshly chopped parsley or green onions.

Yummy! I browned mine first since I used beef (which has more fat than turkey) so the oil wouldn't be in the crock. That also made them get done faster, which was a plus. Still spicy using my homemade pepper jelly leaving the dried peppers out, but I imagine that will vary.
