Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 3 cake pans.
Step 2
In mixer, combine dry ingredients. Add shortening, milk and vanilla, beating for 2 minutes. Add egg whites, beating an additional 2 minutes.
Step 3
Pour into pans and bake 30-35 minutes or until done. Test doneness with a toothpick.
Step 4
Allow cake to cool in pans for 8 minutes, then transfer to racks. Allow to cool completely before filling and frosting.
