  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 egg whites (unbeaten)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 3 cake pans.

  • Step 2: In mixer, combine dry ingredients. Add shortening, milk and vanilla, beating for 2 minutes. Add egg whites, beating an additional 2 minutes.

  • Step 3: Pour into pans and bake 30-35 minutes or until done. Test doneness with a toothpick.

  • Step 4: Allow cake to cool in pans for 8 minutes, then transfer to racks. Allow to cool completely before filling and frosting.
