Ingredients
- 3 3/8 cup cake flour
- 2 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 5 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 cup shortening (white)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (white)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 6 egg whites (unbeaten)
How to Make

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 3 cake pans.

Step 2: In mixer, combine dry ingredients. Add shortening, milk and vanilla, beating for 2 minutes. Add egg whites, beating an additional 2 minutes.

Step 3: Pour into pans and bake 30-35 minutes or until done. Test doneness with a toothpick.

Step 4: Allow cake to cool in pans for 8 minutes, then transfer to racks. Allow to cool completely before filling and frosting.
