Scrub clams. Place in deep saucepan
Add water to cover. Bring to a boil. Boil 5 minutes. Until shells open
Stain through fine mesh sieve
Take clams out of shells. Chop
In large saucepan melt butter, add bacon or salt pork if you have some. Cook 3 minutes. Add onions. Cook 10 minutes don't brown
Add potatoes cook 1 minute
Add broth. Bring to a boil
Boil 8 minutes until potatoes are just tender
Add clams, cook 3 more minutes. Take of heat and add milk and cream
