Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven 375 degrees
Step 2
Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt together.
Step 3
Cream shortening
Step 4
Slowly beat in sugar, egg yolks and vanilla extract.
Step 5
Add cocoa mixed in boiling water that has cooled to lukewarm and flour mixture alternately with milk.
Step 6
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Step 7
Pour into 2 greased 8 inch layer cake tins.
Step 8
Bake for 25 minutes at 375 degrees F, or use greased 9-inch square tin, baking for 45 minutes at 350 degrees F.
