Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a bowl combine the first 5 ingredients (-kosher salt), whisking to combine and then place in freezer for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Fill a 1 gal. resealable plastic bag 2/3 fun with ice cubes and then add 1/2 cup rock salt. Close bag and see to combine. Open bag.

Step 3

Remove ice cream base from freezer and stir to incorporate. Pour mixture into a sandwich-size plastic bag; close. Place bag into the bag of ice; close.

Step 4

Wearing gloves, shake and smush the ice around until ice cream is firm (10-15 minutes). Remove ice cream from bag of ice. If it is too firm to scoop massage it briefly with your hands.

Step 5

Transfer ice cream to a small bowl and using a toothpick add red food coloring, if you drag it through it will form pretty streaks.

Step 6

Crush a candy can with a rolling pin and scatter the pieces on top.
