Step by Step Method

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in Warm water.

Step 2

Add milk, sugar, butter and 2 1/2 cups flour. Mix till smooth.

Step 3

Add fruit, anise seed, nuts and enough remaining dough to make dough easy to handle.

Step 4

Turn out dough into lightly floured, surface and knead till smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place dough in oiled bowl and turn to coat.

Step 6

Cover dough with a damp cloth, and let dough rise until doubled.

Step 7

Punch down dough and divide in half.

Step 8

Shape each half into a round, slightly flat loaf.

Step 9

Place loaves on opposite corners of a greased baking sheet.

Step 10

Cut a cross into the top of each loaf, 1/2 inch deep.

Step 11

Let rise till double.

Step 12

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 13

Blend 1 egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush on top of loaves.

Step 14

Bake 35 to 45 minutes.
