Step 1: Dissolve yeast in Warm water.
Step 2: Add milk, sugar, butter and 2 1/2 cups flour. Mix till smooth.
Step 3: Add fruit, anise seed, nuts and enough remaining dough to make dough easy to handle.
Step 4: Turn out dough into lightly floured, surface and knead till smooth and elastic.
Step 5: Place dough in oiled bowl and turn to coat.
Step 6: Cover dough with a damp cloth, and let dough rise until doubled.
Step 7: Punch down dough and divide in half.
Step 8: Shape each half into a round, slightly flat loaf.
Step 9: Place loaves on opposite corners of a greased baking sheet.
Step 10: Cut a cross into the top of each loaf, 1/2 inch deep.
Step 11: Let rise till double.
Step 12: Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 13: Blend 1 egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush on top of loaves.
Step 14: Bake 35 to 45 minutes.
