"What a delightful treat! Oreo dessert balls make a nice addition to any party. They can be decorated to match any occasion. Most recipes call for 8 ounces of cream cheese. I only use 4 ounces and it holds together VERY well. (Plus, the Oreo cookie package has gotten much smaller. Other brands work just as well). I want my Oreo dessert balls to be firm enough to dip in the coating and not turn into little mud balls while setting out on trays in heated rooms. I use my Kitchen Aid Mixer with the paddle to mix the cream cheese and crumbs, which does a good job of thoroughly mixing it up. I also like to use bark for the coating instead of chocolate chips. The bark gives it a harder shell to hold in the shape of the cream cheese cookie filling. (Prep time does not include chill time). On holidays such as Easter and Christmas I like to add color. I melt a little white bark in the microwave in small dishes. I add just a speck of food coloring, pastels for Easter, and Red and Green for Christmas. I spoon this into small snack size zip lock bags; snipping a very, very tiny corner of the baggy off. Squeeze the bag to drizzle over the balls. You can also use a pastry bag."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a food processor blend the Oreo cookies until crumbly, doing one sleeve at a time.

Step 2

Empty the Oreo crumbs into another bowl.

Step 3

Add the cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs.

Step 4

Using the paddle on a large mixer, mix the cream cheese and Oreos until on low to medium speed until well blended. It will look like mud. :)

Step 5

Shape the Oreo mixture into small walnut size balls; about 1-inch in size.

Step 6

Place them on a cookie sheet that is lined with waxed paper.

Step 7

Put cookie sheet of oreo balls in the freezer for about 30-60 minutes.

Step 8

You can either coat them all white, or all chocolate, or a combination of half and half.

Step 9

In a double boiler or make shift double boiler, melt the chocolate. Break the bark up a little bit before melting.

Step 10

Using a tooth pick, dip the Oreo ball into the melted chocolate; gently shake excess coating off. Set dipped ball on a cookie sheet, and gently twist the tooth pick out. Continue until all the Oreo dessert balls are coated.

Step 11

You can either drizzle some melted chocolate or white bark over the balls, or leave them plain. Chill in refrigerator to set the chocolate.

I made these up yesterday to use on my cookie trays for my neighbors. They will really add color to the trays and they are sooo good too! Of course, I used the chocolate and decorated with sprinkles on some and nuts on others.
