Step by Step Method

Step 1

Sift flour with baking soda, salt, and sugar.

Step 2

Stir in cornmeal.

Step 3

Combine eggs, vinegar, milk, and shortening. Add to dry ingredients, and stir just until dry ingredients are moist.

Step 4

Turn into a greased 8x8x2 inch baking pan.

Step 5

Bake at 400 degrees F, for 30-35 minutes.

This was great. We don't like over sweet cornbread, and this was just right. I was about 1/4 cup short on yellow cornmeal, so subbed some blue cornmeal. That is why my photo looks dark. But it worked fine and I may make this with all blue next time for a change of pace.
