Microwave Poached Eggs

"This is a recipe that I posted to another site many years ago. The recipe has served me well over the years and I wanted to share it here. I have been poaching eggs in the microwave for many years. For me this is the best way to prepare poached eggs for 2. It is quick, easy and almost foolproof. Please make sure you use a toothpick to pierce the yolk before cooking or it will explode!"

Original recipe yields 1 serving

Step 1

Add the water and white vinegar to a 6 ounce custard cup.

Step 2

Break egg into cup, pierce egg yolk with toothpick, and cover dish loosely with plastic wrap.

Step 3

Place in microwave and cook for 1 minute or until desired doneness.

Step 4

You may need to experiment with cooking times based on the wattage of your microwave and taste preference.

Step 5

Immediately remove egg from hot water with a slotted spoon as it will continue to cook.

Step 6

Serve with salt and pepper to taste.

I used this method to make my eggs for breakfast this morning..... and they were PERFECT! Runny and just how I like them! I made exactly as written and they took about 55 seconds each. Wonderful quick and simple way to make poached eggs. Thanks Paula.

Quick easy and fast in my 900watt microwave they took 1 minute and 15 seconds for the white to be set and the yolk nice and runny how I like it and I also had two in the microwave which would also have effected the timing. Thank you PaulaG for a very tasty breakfast, made for Alphabet Soup tag game.
