Step 1

Boil sweet potato, yam, in salted water in a saucepan over high heat until fork tender, about 10 minutes. Drain potato and return to pan to dry briefly over medium heat. Mash potato to desired consistency. Stir in butter and chile; season with salt and freshly ground pepper.
