Step by Step Method
Step 1
Cook the water, sugar, and raisins or dates together, stirring constantly as it burns. Cook until thick; cool.
Step 2
Cream shortening and brown sugar together; add eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla.
Step 3
Sift flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon together; add walnuts.
Step 4
Add to creamed mixture.
Step 5
Pat or roll out on wax paper or towel to 1/2 inch thick.
Step 6
Spread date mixture over it, roll up and store in refrigerator.
Step 7
Slice and bake as needed.
